After a pleasant walk admiring Florence’s main highlights you will reach the entrance of one of the finest art museums in the world, whose collection of sculptures and paintings was assembled by several generations of the Medici family. Here you can experience the evolution of Italian art from its beginnings to the 17th century; it is an opportunity to enjoy some of the greatest universally acclaimed masterpieces of the Renaissance. The early nucleus was gathered by Francesco I (1541-87), and in 1737 the last member of the Medici dynasty, Anna Maria Luisa, bequeathed the Medici collection to her native city of Florence.
The Uffizi Museum is housed in a Renaissance Palace designed by Vasari in 1560, which contained the offices (Uffizi) of the Medici administration. The rich collections of drawings, paintings and sculptures are exhibited on two separate floors. Here you will be able to admire works of art from various Italian artists, including Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus, Adoration of the Magi and Primavera, as well as The Annunciation by Leonardo da Vinci. Noteworthy as well are Tondo Doni by Michelangelo and the Madonna of the Goldfinch by Raphael.
