CSC · Lucca & Pisa Tour with Lunch

This excursion includes a private transfer combining two of the main Tuscan destinations: Pisa and Lucca.

Pisa is a historic university town situated on the Arno River. It was a Roman naval base and commercial port until the end of the Empire. It became an independent maritime republic at the end of the 9th century and continued to benefit from its geographical location to become a rival of Genoa and Venice. When during the 13th century Pisa passed under Florentine rule, the Medicis took a special interest in the city. They were especially intrigued by its most famous son, the astronomer and physicist Galileo Galilei. The focal point of the entire city is the Square of Miracles - absolutely splendid at first glance with the green grass contrasting beautifully with the stark white marble of its prize monuments.

You will pass by the world-famous Leaning Tower. Sometimes a famous landmark is a letdown when you see it live, however this is not true in the case of the Leaning Tower - it is incredible! The tower has a cylindrical shape with small arcades and rounded arches. Shortly after the initial work began, the lower floors of the construction began to lean due to the softness of the sandy and watery terrain, creating the fascinating monument you see today.

You will also visit the astonishing Baptistery and Cathedral. The Baptistery is a circular, all marble, Renaissance building in perfect condition which was completed over 500 years ago. The other stop is the stunning Cathedral, which boasts Romanesque bronze doors by Pisano.

Lucca is situated in the center of a fertile plain and has preserved within its girdle of ramparts, a rich heritage of churches, palaces, squares and streets, which give the town a charming air unscathed by contemporary developments. Lucca became a colony of Ancient Rome in 2 BC, and the town’s Roman Legacy is still evident in the regular grid pattern of its streets. The town is enclosed by massive red brick walls, which help to give the city its special character by shutting out traffic and the modern world. Built in 1504-1645, the walls are among the best-preserved Renaissance defenses in Europe. Within these walls, Lucca is truly a peaceful city! The guided tour includes the square that still recalls the ancient Roman Amphitheater and the Cathedral dedicated to St. Martin.
